In a corporate environment that is changing at warp speed, performing consistently at high levels is more difficult and more necessary than ever. Narrow interventions simply aren’t sufficient anymore. Companies must grow their employees’ cognitive capacities while also addressing their physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being. On the playing field or in the boardroom, high performance depends as much on how people renew and recover energy as on how they expend it, on how they manage their lives as much as on how they manage their work. When people feel strong and re-silent—physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually—they perform better, with more passion, for longer. They win, their families win, and the corporations that employ them win.

Please join NextUp Chicago for an experiential event on "How to be a Great Corporate Athlete” and learn what it takes to perform consistently at the highest levels by managing your physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual state. This is NextUp’s first in-person learning event in three years and promises to be a highly memorable occasion. The evening will feature breakout sessions with experts dedicated to all facets of physical and mental health: The Mind, The Body, The Spirit and The Emotions. Our lineup of facilitators includes experts from Calm, the world’s leading mindfulness company, Donna Peters, the Founder of the-me-suite and leadership coach at Emory University, Clay Stelzer - President and Founder of 15sixty, a network of coaches, dedicated to helping business leaders and their teams wake up to their potential, and lastly Morgan Bierman, a Chicago based fitness, yoga and meditation instructor. These facilitators will lead attendees through highly interactive activities and share ideas on how to support and develop oneself in order to take control and achieve your goals. Attendees will walk away with several strategies to support performing at the highest level while also maintaining optimal health and happiness. Networking and drinks will follow with cocktails and mocktails from one of our sponsors; Beam Suntory! Participants will have the opportunity to register for two breakout sessions, spots in these sessions are limited so register now to make sure you don’t miss out!

The Mind:

Operating at the highest levels means being able to truly focus all your physical and emotional energy on the task at hand. This session aims to enhance your cognitive capacities by providing tools to consciously manage your time and energy – enabling you to perform at a higher level while also spending less time at work. Actively prioritizing and managing your time is a way not just to manage energy better but to create more balance in life and to maintain a session of passion. Meditation quiets the mind, the emotions, and the body, promoting energy recovery. Rituals that encourage positive thinking increase the likelihood of operating in the ideal performance state. Visualization will enable you to think through and get what you really want from each interaction throughout the day. Register here to participate in an interactive workshop from Calm, the world’s learning mindfulness company.

The Body:

Our body is our fundamental source of energy – the foundation of our performance pyramid. Typically, those striving for high performance push themselves too hard mentally and emotionally and too little physically. Physical stress has become a source not just of greater endurance but also of emotional and mental recovery. Regular workouts, good sleeping and eating rituals are essential to create clear work-life boundaries, enable you to feel re-energized and better able to focus.  Morgan Bierman, a Chicago-based fitness instructor will lead us through a fun flow yoga session enabling you to truly switch off and relax after the day’s events. This session will help you get out of your head and into your soul so get ready to shimmy into those stretchy pants and strike a pose. Register here to attend this breakout. Note: it is encouraged that you wear comfortable clothing.

The Spirit:

Our spirit is the energy unleashed by tapping into one’s deepest values and defining a strong sense of purpose. The current macroeconomic environment creates pressure and challenges for all of us. Many of us are asking "what role should work play in the life I want to live?" Donna Peters, founder of the-me-suite, is an expert in crafting career strategies for high performers who want a life. Neuroscience shows “options are power.” Donna will lead a session focused on finding your purpose and surrounding yourself with options so you can make changes from a position of strength. We know feeling trapped causes significant negative impacts to our physical health, sleep, anxiety, and overall sense of well-being. Learn how to surround yourself with career options - exactly as a corporate athlete would do. Put work to work for you.

The Emotions:

Managing your emotions is all about creating the internal climate to drive the ideal performance state. Just as positive emotions ignite the energy that drives high performance, negative emotions—frustration, impatience, anger, fear, resentment, and sadness—drain energy. Real corporate athletes recognize their emotions as they are occurring and don’t let them lead them astray. Clay Stelzer, founder of 15sixty will help you wake up and address this issue. He will introduce the concept of conscious leadership so you become more aware of your emotions in the moment and can better manage your internal state as well as the mindset of your teams.
